Two parents, one kitchen table

About us

Daycrumbs began with two busy parents.

In the evenings, after the kids were down, we would end up in the kitchen trading the day’s little things. She said this at breakfast. Did you see what he did with the dog. We would laugh, and reminisce about children we had seen that same morning.

Somewhere in there we noticed what was slipping. The photos were plentiful, but the real story wasn’t in them. It was behind the pictures, in the cracks between the videos, in the quiet of a room at the end of a long day. Those parts had no album, and they were leaving quietly.

We wanted our kids to have a sense of who they were on the way to becoming adults. And, just as much, a sense of who their parents were on that same journey. Because something happens when you grow up, and maybe become a parent yourself: you look back and understand, often for the first time, that your parents were people. That they did the best they could with what they had. That they were on their own journey while raising you through yours.

That understanding usually arrives decades late, if it arrives at all. We are building Daycrumbs hoping it can arrive sooner, and land softer. A trail your grown child can walk back down one day, hearing your voice, seeing what it was actually like, knowing where they came from. We think that makes for better relationships, in both directions.

That’s the whole company. Two parents, a kitchen table, and the story already happening.
