Privacy policy

Daycrumbs is a private family journal. It was built so that your family’s memories never have to pass through us. This page explains, in plain language, where your data lives and what we can and cannot see.

Where your memories live

Every crumb you leave, whether it is a voice note, written words, or a photo or video moment, is stored on your device and synced through your own iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. The family trail lives in the trail owner’s private iCloud database. Daycrumbs runs no server of its own, so your memories are never sent to us or to any third party.

Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s privacy policy, the same as any other app that syncs through your iCloud account.

Photos and videos

Daycrumbs does not copy your photo library. When you attach a photo or video, the app keeps a reference to the original in your Photos library, where it stays. So that your co-parent can see shared moments, the app creates a smaller display copy with identifying metadata removed, including location data, and shares it only within your family’s private iCloud share. Any place names shown in the app are worked out on your device, and the underlying location coordinates are not carried into the copies your co-parent sees.

Voice, transcription, and suggestions

Voice crumbs are transcribed on your device using Apple’s speech recognition. If the app offers a suggested title for a voice crumb, that suggestion is generated on your device too. Nothing you say is sent to us or to any outside service.

Sharing with your co-parent

Inviting a co-parent uses Apple’s built-in sharing. Your co-parent sees the shared family trail, and each parent’s words and recordings remain their own. If sharing is ever ended, access ends with it. All of this happens between your devices and your family’s iCloud, without us in the middle.

Face ID, notifications, and permissions

If you turn on the privacy lock, Face ID checks happen entirely on your device; Daycrumbs never sees your biometric data. Prompt notifications are scheduled locally on your phone. The app asks for microphone, speech, camera, and Photos access only when you use the feature that needs it.

What we collect from the app

Nothing. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We cannot see your crumbs, your children’s names, your photos, or anything else in your journal.

Your memories are yours

You can export your journal whenever you like, including your audio files and a complete archive of your words and family timeline. Capture, viewing, sync, and export are free and will stay that way. Deleting the app and removing its iCloud data from your account removes your journal; because we hold no copy, there is nothing left with us to delete.

This website

The daycrumbs.com website uses no analytics and no advertising or tracking cookies. If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you give us and use it for one purpose: to tell you about Daycrumbs availability. We do not sell or share it. The family photographs on this site are AI-generated; no real families appear here, because a privacy-first product should not mine real childhoods for its marketing. To have your email removed, write to hello@daycrumbs.com and we will delete it. Our waitlist service also keeps short-lived, automatically expiring records used to limit abuse of the signup form.

Children

Daycrumbs is made for parents. The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. What parents choose to record about their family stays within the family’s own devices and iCloud.

Changes to this policy

If Daycrumbs ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and change the date at the top before the change takes effect. The promise at the heart of the app, that your memories stay yours and stay private, is not going to change.
